Simple is Sweet

Over the years, I have tried different ways of finishing my quilt edges. I know the usual way is to sew a multi-folded binding tape around the sides, taking care to hide the stiches. I have found that not only are the edges stiff and bulky but that I will always detest mitering the corners.

After sewing around my applique edges with a blanket stitch many times I one day decided to try it around the edge of a baby quilt I was making to give away. I found the result so soft and flexible that I have been doing it ever since. It is certainly not the traditional way to finish a quilt, but it is my way and I feel that the time I take sitting down to do a little hand sewing is a peaceful quiet time and adds a little extra special touch to each quilt.

Today I started a new resolution. (In august? I know... but my birthday is coming soon and I tend to resolve to do new things around that time) I am going to try to drink hot tea with honey and lemon in an effort to wean myself from the fattening sodas and cappuccino flavored chocolate milk I have been drinking like crazy ever since I started nursing 7 months ago. (When I am nursing I stay thirsty all the time!) I know, I know... why not just drink lots of water? I am just not that good! Anyway, this is one of many many resolutions about to go into effect around here. More on that later.
