Simple is Sweet

Over the years, I have tried different ways of finishing my quilt edges. I know the usual way is to sew a multi-folded binding tape around the sides, taking care to hide the stiches. I have found that not only are the edges stiff and bulky but that I will always detest mitering the corners.

After sewing around my applique edges with a blanket stitch many times I one day decided to try it around the edge of a baby quilt I was making to give away. I found the result so soft and flexible that I have been doing it ever since. It is certainly not the traditional way to finish a quilt, but it is my way and I feel that the time I take sitting down to do a little hand sewing is a peaceful quiet time and adds a little extra special touch to each quilt.

Today I started a new resolution. (In august? I know... but my birthday is coming soon and I tend to resolve to do new things around that time) I am going to try to drink hot tea with honey and lemon in an effort to wean myself from the fattening sodas and cappuccino flavored chocolate milk I have been drinking like crazy ever since I started nursing 7 months ago. (When I am nursing I stay thirsty all the time!) I know, I know... why not just drink lots of water? I am just not that good! Anyway, this is one of many many resolutions about to go into effect around here. More on that later.

My favorite tip!

The $4 design wall...

Every now and then you come across a gem of a tip that actually makes your life easier and hardly costs a thing! My favorite tip is pictured in the photo above. Note the wall.

Did you know that fabric sticks to flannel? You know like those flannel board stories they used to do for us in Sunday School back in the day?

Most vinyl tableclothes are backed with flannel... even the cheapo $4 ones from Walmart.

Hang the tablecloth on the wall- flannel side out and voila!

A wonderful and handy design wall to stick your blocks up on and re-arrange to your hearts content!

Every now and then you come across a tip that is truly useful.

Sew Nice!

Welcome friends!
Now seems like a great time to kick off this blog. Why now? I have been running the Etsy shop for a couple of weeks, but have been putting off starting this thing (even though I love blogs) Well, two reasons.
Number 1) I don't want to clean my kitchen. (a chore I always deplore but as the dishwasher is broken at the moment the thought is especially heinous)
Number 2) I finally got the header and background ready. Granted: I need to figure out why the logo is showing up fuzzy. Actually this is quite embarrassing since I have a degree in Graphic Design, but it is just a good reminder that there are always bugs when you do stuff like that and maybe my wonderful nerd of a husband can come home later and help me figure it out. (I have tried many formats and all of them look perfectly clear and sharp in Photoshop before them on the blog)
So back to the blog... Yeah, I am going to be blogging here about my new baby quilt shop on Etsy and also about other things. In a few weeks I am planning a giveaway to help promote the shop. I am currently working on stocking it with a few more items first. I have fabric and little baby quilt tops coming out my ears. Just another great excuse to not go in that kitchen!
Thanks for reading, be sure to visit the shop! Cutie Pie Quilts
